My Top Ten of 2000

Not to be too contrarian, but only two movies in my Top Ten were nominated at the Academy Awards, none of them for Best Picture, two nods and zero wins between them. Not to play favorites, but four of my Top Ten are not just films I'd seen before, but films I'd seen many times before. My mother was very helpful to me with this batch of movies. When I told her how I was wrestling with my feelings regarding one of the movies, she immediately sent me the book it was based on and, of course, I read it. 

It did make me appreciate the film more as a largely successful adaptation of an impossible-to-adapt story, yet at the same time, the book's own shortcomings pulled into focus what I didn't like about the movie. 

But it wasn't the worst movie I saw...
