The Year is 1976...

It's February! That means three things!

Hit the jump to find out just exactly what...

First, duh-doy, the Oscars are at the end of the month, and that's exciting.

Second, and most importantly, today is my dad's birthday! Happy Birthday, Dad! He and my sister Virginia have probably done the most to encourage my love of film. Halloween was a gas thanks to him - he once made himself up as a hanging corpse in the middle of our house! He also made me a Hunter S. Thompson Halloween costume, complete with a cigarette holder that he made from...well, I can't remember the exact household item that was used, but I do know he went to his work-bench perfecting it. Anyway, 58 years young today, Happy Birthday!

Which brings me to third: this month, the Retro Hollmann Awards are back with the year 1976! Yes, we're celebrating the Bicentennial all month long as we look at Oscar's favorites from that year, but with a special treat! See, 1976 is also the year that my parents met, so I've gotten them involved in this month's proceedings. They'll be weighing in on some of the categories, and y'all will get to know them a little better, too!

And of course, it all ends with my personal ballot for the 1976 Retro Hollmann Awards. These are the 61 films I saw, and from which I will award:
