Flashback! To Greatness!

Due no doubt to Nick Davis's tweet challenging his followers to do so, I recently decided to watch the five films making up the 1974 Best Actress Oscar Nominees. It's widely regarded as one of the best fields the category has ever offered, and rightly so! In fact, 1974 was a strong year altogether -- so strong in fact, that I found myself watching (and re-watching) all the films nominated for those sexy, popular categories: Picture, Director, Acting, Writing and Cinematography. Then, of course, I realized the other films that came out in 1974, films that I admire: Phantom of the Paradise, Phase IV, The Beast Must Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, etc., etc., etc.

And thus do I declare May to be the month of '74! It's a look at the films of that glorious year, from the Oscar nominees to the ones that didn't make it, rankings for each category, and....

THE FIRST EVER RETRO HOLLMANN AWARDS! That's right, I'll be presenting my own winners and nominees from the year 1974!

Step into the Way-Back Machine, folks. It's gonna be a fun ride....

Walter, this should be fun..And you are pre-dating my own tribute to Oscar 1974 by three years! I'm sure I will be quoting you then!

I thought '74 was a year of very serious, sometimes depressing films, meaning that many of them--especially the Oscar nominees--were heavy, heavy works, leaving audiences subdued...

But then you had the likes of Francis Ford Coppola, Bob Fosse, and Francois Truffaut in high gear, doing exceptionally creative work...

Oh I can't WAIT!
